whatever you do, don't do that

But wait. There's more.

Yet another Canadian songstress thought it wise to cover this classic rock anthem.

I must admit, that this one isn't nearly as horrible as the Celine Dion version, mostly because the backing band, Alison Krauss and Union Station, are fantastic musicians. But as much as I love cover songs (and believe me, I'm a cover song junkie) there are some tunes that should be left alone. So people, please, for the love of God, stop covering this song!

The arrangment isn't too bad really. Quite nice...verging on bluegrass. Still, not a song that should be covered. Oh no. Least its not as painful as the Celine Dion one. I'm still shaking, and not in a good way, from it.

yes the bluegrass element does help. It's certainly much easier to take than the Celine version. And once again, Shania has a fantastic voice. She just records a lot of crap songs.

Speaking of bluegrass, have you heard Dolly Parton covering Collective Soul's Shine? Now that is an excellent cover!

Not heard the Dolly version. I'll keep an ear out for it. Is there a youtube/itunes version around?

I do like a good cover. Foo Fighters doing Have a Cigar or Baker Street. BNL doing When Doves Cry.

Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies though. Every heard of them? They are just a dedicated cover band. They get a bit punky though when they needn't.

As a matter of fact...

I haven't heard that Foo Fighters one, I'll have to seek it out. The BNL When Doves Cry is excellent. Have you heard their version of Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads?

I've never heard of Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. I will see if I can find them. Thanks for the tip.

Ooo that cover does work very well. Increased the urge to buy a banjo as well. Think I might just wait and bring up my irish mandolin from back home.

The Me First's do get a bit punky but they have some good covers. Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Mrs Robinson and Phantom Of the Opera being my faves.
